The painting reimagines Pirouz as a Sasanian prince and knight standing high in the mountains of Badakhshan, where he makes a solemn promise: one day, he will return. His leather helmet, layered chainmail and plate armour, great sword, and commanding posture evoke the martial splendour of the Sasanian world—one of the great civilisations of pre-Islamic Persia.
