Nastaran

About the Artwork

“Nastaran” portrays the artist’s wife, Nastaran, in a monumental contemporary oil painting where portraiture, landscape, and mythic imagery converge. The sweeping crimson dress, the white horse, and the restless sea create a powerful sense of movement. Against the dark rocks and turbulent water, her figure takes on an almost archetypal presence, giving this deeply personal portrait a cinematic and timeless character.

Artist Notes

Nastaran is built around movement: the sweeping folds of the crimson dress, wind-driven hair, surging sea, and the powerful stride of the white horse create a composition that seems to advance beyond the boundaries of the canvas. The contrast between the luminous figure and horse, the deep red fabric, the turbulent water, and the dark rocky landscape transforms a personal portrait into an almost mythic scene. The painting portrays the artist’s wife, Nastaran, and was created as an expression of gratitude for her extraordinary courage and fearlessness. She rides not through a peaceful landscape, but through water, wind, rocks, and uncertainty—a world in which the path ahead has yet to be revealed. For the artist, this journey reflects her willingness to cross unfamiliar boundaries that many might hesitate to approach. The white horse becomes an extension of that determination: powerful, alert, and moving relentlessly forward despite the resistance of the sea. Behind her stand the rocks and turbulent waters—symbols of obstacles already confronted rather than destinations to which she intends to return. Her gaze remains directed ahead, while the flowing crimson fabric carries the energy of everything she has overcome into the space before her. Although rooted in an intimate tribute from an artist to his wife, Nastaran reaches beyond portraiture to become an image of resilience, dignity, freedom, and the courage to enter the unknown. It is ultimately a painting about moving toward the future with beauty and strength—not because the journey is without fear or difficulty, but because neither is allowed to determine its direction.
